Greetings to the world’s most fun mountain bikers on the planet

Thanks for entering the world’s best 9 day mountain bike ride (because it’s the only 9 day bike ride!).

This newsletter has some good stuff in it:

  • Spionkop Mountain is back on Day 4
  • Watch the Pyga Lines of joBerg2c
  • Win your entry back with Old Mutual
  • Bookings are open
  • Racing info
  • Group incentive
  • Summer Training Rides delivered by Avis Van Rental

It’s time to start thinking about and committing to your joBerg2c 2018 ride. Why? Because you need to train to enjoy your 9 days so that you can have an uplifting experience and because … wait for it… the iconic Spionkop Mountain is back in on Day 4!

This mountain is where the brutal and famous battle took place during the Anglo-Boer War. Both Winston Churchill and Mahatma Ghandi were there at the time. Churchill was a war correspondent and Ghandi was a stretcher bearer.

All you have to do is ride up this climb and enjoy the breath-taking descent while you think about cold beer. Nothing compared to the bad old days!

For the record a few football grounds in the UK name their home fans sections “The Kop” after the battle of Spionkop, including Liverpool.

Watch the Pyga Lines of joBerg2c

Watch these clips produced by the Pyga crew, if you have not already, to remind yourself of why you have entered to Ride the Beloved Country.

Win your entry back with Old Mutual

They are chuffed to give one team and one solo a nice little surprise for those committed. Watch out for the announcement middle November. Competition closes 31 October. Group incentive

We are always trying to incentivise groups of mates to ride as it adds to the gees. Remember for every 10 riders in a group, one will ride free!!

Old Mutual joBerg2c “Summer Training Rides” delivered by Avis Van Rental

We will be having a few info sessions and training rides over the next few months. These will be proper GPS routes of around 50km to 70km. There will also be family options at the venues for those not wanting too much distance. Avis Van Rental will be there afterwards for a few cold ones too!

Diarise these dates – and please RSVP to craig@joberg2c.co.za if you are keen to ride with us.

18 November – joBerg2c Ride for Erik – Van Gaalens
Many of you may know the legend Eric and that he had a life changing accident. Eric has worked on many joBerg2c’s and he has ridden the event with passion. We are going to have a joBerg2c ride at Van Gaalen’s on Saturday the 18th November 7am start. The route will be GPS’d so no need to rush to the start. Followed by a beer or two and some cheese afterwards. Erik does not want to charge us so we will use this to raise some money towards his next electric exercise wheel chair.

There will be a technical route for those that like it a bit rougher and a non-technical route for those who like it a little more chilled. We are aiming to make the ride around 3 hours long.

Saturday 9 December – Welvan Pas Wellington
The joBerg2c crew will be in the Western Cape to try lure some more Cape riders to see the rest of their country!

Start time 7am – route of around 60km – challenging and rewarding – joBerg2c will cover entry for all 2018 riders. Great opportunity to find out more about the event and to just talk mountain biking.

Saturday 23 December – Hola Trails Balito KZN
Nic Jordan will put together a lekker longish black with all the single track for us. Even if you ride there a lot, this will be a little different. Around 60km to 70km and it will also be a great chance to test your GPS.

Saturday 30 December – Garden Route Trail Park
What a way to earn your New Year jol! Come join us for a proper challenging 60km into the forest behind the park, and then finish off with some of the best single track on the planet. Don’t be fooled by distance, this will be proper j2c and even epic training ride. We will have the route on GPS so you can ride it in your own time.

Start 7am – 8am. It’s also perfect to bring kids and family with as they can play on the pump track and do a variety of trails too.

Saturday 27 January – Big Red Barn – Pretoria
Dom Cullinan will put together a really fun training ride and we will also have a ‘how to ride single track fast’ training session with some really fast riders giving you tips.

Bring friends and family with and come ride for riding sake. Please let us know if you are going to be there.

If you need any more information please email craig@joberg2c.co.za.
