Newsletter – The joBerg2c post – 21 November 2017

We are living in strange times – lots of change and uncertainty. By choosing to ride the Old Mutual joBerg2c, you have chosen to escape ordinary life for a few days and to have a breather from the noise of opinions and over analysis. Who knows even joBerg2c may feel the effects of Brexit, Trump and Zuma in the long term but for now you will be unaffected by global issues. For 9 days you will have nothing to think about except riding. Almost everything else will be done for you. Provided you train to enjoy it, you should be in for a ride of your life.

The Avis Van Rental Ride Like Pro entry

We are sure you know some young aspiring pro’s (without a contract) who simply cannot afford an entry to joBerg2c and who are super talented – please let them know about the Avis Van Rental Ride Like a Pro competition worth R72 000.

This is a proper prize with a team entry and an Avis Safari Rental vehicle (roof top tent) for the event with a driver to the deserving winners.

Click here to find out more here.

Look what Miele have washed up, the Miele Single Speed category!!

Miele, makers of the world’s finest home appliances, are not only going to give you a free cycling kit laundry service during the event, they have also decided to sponsor the Miele Single Speed category for nutters who want to ride 900km with one gear.

Any rider who completes the 900km journey on a single speed will go into a draw to win a R25000 Miele Washing machine. This is an incredible prize.

They will also do special prizes for the best dressed (open to all riders) on Day 9. The idea of this is make sure joBerg2c is always more fun. Despite being a tough endurance ride it is vital that we don’t take ourselves too seriously!

Spread the word to those who ride with one gear and love beer. More information can be found here.

The route will always be king

From now until the event in April we the three stooges, as we are known, will be looking for new sections to make our route more special.

Last year we did 20ks of tar from Emseni to Winterton on Day 5 in the morning. This tar is now history. We will have an incredible new section that passes through Farmer Gary’s farm on route to Winterton. We will no longer stop in town and we will carry on our journey to Nottingham Road.

We will keep you updated with other changes and news in our pursuit of single track happiness.

joBerg2c is proud to say that our route goes through 100 private farms – all our single track is specially prepared for the event and you would not be able to ride these routes any other time of the year.

Those in South Africa diarise these dates

Ride for More Than Yourself

If you want to ride for a worthy cause we have two outstanding charities which have an immediate impact to people lives in South Africa and specifically on our route.

Surgeons for Little Lives

Surgeons for Little Lives are a bunch of Paediatric Surgeons who have made it their mission to raise funds to build extra facilities and to purchase extra equipment to make sure the children at Baragwaneth Hospital get the best care possible.

Raise funds for Surgeons for Little Lives and you could ride for free – to find out more email Dr Chris Westgarth-Taylor drcwtaylor@gmail.com and visit www.surgeonsforlittlelives.org.

Nelson Mandela Library Project

The Nelson Mandela Library Project under the guidance of Robert Coutts has put 9 purpose built container libraries on our route in remote areas where literacy is a massive challenge. A combination of both individuals and corporates can take credit for the funds raised over 7 great years. One individual, Danny Vogel from Germany, got his own container library built in Germany and shipped it to South Africa. If you would like to find out more email Robert Coutts robert@mandelabangle.com and visit www.participateforgood.com.

Yoga/Stretch classes – we always bend over backwards for you

It is well documented that Yoga / Stretching is awesome for riding – read up about it here.

We will have a yoga/stretch class in the afternoon everyday with Charlotte Johnson – space will be limited – there will be a nominal fee for the week R100 per session or R720 for 8 days of which 10% will go to Surgeons for Little Lives. To book your spot email Charlotte j2cyoga@gmail.com.
