Old Mutual joBerg2c – Two weeks to go!
Not long now until you set off to Ride the Beloved Country. We will keep this one short and sweet but once again, it is a must read. Please read for your own peace of mind.
I am sure you are all chomping at the bit for your GPS routes – these will be sent to you before the 13 April (next week). We will have a dedicated newsletter specifically for GPS files.
N3TC DrOp‘ngo2c Supporter tour
If you are bringing a supporter along – either in camper van areas or a B&B, make sure they book onto the N3TC drOp’ngo2C Supporters Tour – this is the best, and only way, to see riders on the route. To book visit our website.
No supporters will be allowed to drive on the route – ever – the rider associated with any supporter who drives on the route will be disqualified. This is for obvious reasons and no exceptions will be made.
Download the bill payment app called Zapper from iTunes and Google Play store – this will be handy for your Rawdons Craft Beer and Gin purchases along the way and to buy a few things from our merchandise shop. You might also get lucky and score a free Craft beer or two. Who knows?
Data and Wi-Fi
If you are travelling from overseas it will be a good idea to bring a spare phone so you can get a South African data card. Roaming charges are always quite hefty. There are a number of mobile shops opposite our registration venue which will be able to assist. Although we will have Wi-Fi in most villages, it is better to have a back up to stay in touch with family and friends.
Wasteplan have come on board to help us reduce our footprint as an event. We welcome them as a sponsor. We will have a simple recycling message and if we can all try follow this, it will make a massive difference. Wasteplan will be giving you a proper beer mug for the week (to reduce plastic) and Seattle Coffee Co will be giving you a coffee mug (to reduce paper) which you MUST bring with you to get your daily fix.
More about this at registration and also about the wonderful daily prize from Wasteplan.
The Lanham-Love Vaal boat crossing
We are chuffed to have our legal experts Landham-Love Attorneys and BEE specialists sponsoring our Vaal boat crossing. BobBEE Lanham-Love will be riding. So when you see BobBEE ask him a legal question and he might buy you a beer. Lanham-Love is also joining forces with joBerg2c to sponsor our 8 riders from Soweto. More about the boat crossing at registration.
- Shuttle bookings close on 13 April – Don’t get left behind? Book here
- Mechanics – Don’t forget to book your mechanic package if you want nothing to do with your bike in the afternoons. Book here
- Recovery Zone – Many riders like a good rub down to keep the legs fresh and there is so much on offer, from Recovery Boots, Physio’s, and a Massage service – book your well-being package here to help your machine cope. Charlotte our Yoga instructor will also be joining us this year. There will be two yoga classes every day and it’s FREE!!
You will receive a numbered bag to be used during the event. You and you alone will end up carrying this bag. If you fill it up with the unnecessary, you will have to carry the unnecessary. This is not necessary. If you follow our tried and tested packing list – click here – you should be able to travel a bit lighter.
The size of this bag is approx. 100cm (L) x 36cm (H) x 39 (W).
Bring a warm jacket – the nights and mornings are very cold at this time of year. The temperature heats up during the day to 20 degrees celsius but your morning temps can be around zero.
Make sure your sleeping bag is properly rated. Minus 8 and below will do. Bring a pillow and a bed sheet for maximum comfort.
Avis Van Rental top tip – pack your daily cycling kit into large zip-lock bags marked with the day on them for easy access. Then put your dirty kit at the end of the day back into the zip-lock bag and into your Miele wash bag until the Miele laundry service.
FREE Miele Appliances laundry service
Thanks to Miele Appliances, you will get free laundry washes en route. Miele, makers of the finest kitchen appliances, have paid the local communities to do the washing service. For more information click here.
You can also hand wash your own clothes if you bring bio-degradable detergent.
We recommend a minimum 5 sets of riding kits unless you love washing.
That’s all for now – you will receive another newsletter very soon
It’s crunch time at the joBerg2c race office. So, if you have a question or ten please try find it on our website first – or ask Siri! We do believe in personal service, however give our website a try. You will be amazed. Failing that, email us, and we will do our best to get back to you before the 15 May.
